SPOKANE SCHOLARS -- — SINCE 1993

The featured speaker for the 2013 Spokane Scholars Banquet on April 22 was Dr. Leroy Hood, one of the world's leading scientists in molecular biotechnology and genomics.  Dr. Hood has a career filled with scientific innovation and commitment to education.  He spoke eloquently about his career in science, and the potential for major advances in medical care with the coordinated efforts of all branches of science utilizing a systems approach to biology. The Board of Spokane Scholars is very grateful that Dr. Hood came to Spokane to use his professional life as an inspiration to our region's high school scholars.

Since 1993, the Spokane Scholars Foundation has recognized excellence in academic performance by  the area's high school seniors by providing an annual venue for the community to bring these superstar scholars together to a public banquet to praise them for their achievements in the classroom.

The Spokane Scholars Foundation was created by a group of Spokane professional and business people who felt that academic excellence within Spokane county was not receiving appropriate recognition by the community.  Publicity seemed reserved for all activities other than pure academic achievement.  It was time to stand up and cheer for scholarly efforts.
